Tioga Lodge at Mono Lake

View of Mono Lake from Picnic Area

In the late 1890s, J. P. Hammond homesteaded the property where Tioga Lodge is today. The two buildings housing the restaurant and the registration lobby were moved to his property around 1897 from the nearby gold mining town of Bodie (now a ghost town and a State Historic Park), and served as the toll road office, gambling hub, bar and bordello into the early 1900s. Numerous renovations and improvements have been made over the years, but the authentic historic feeling and original buildings remain for guests to enjoy today.

Lodging Style and Amenities

Tioga Lodge was last restored and updated about twelve years ago after sitting dormant for many years. Our rooms are uniquely decorated with authentic antiques to reflect local history and to give the ambiance of times past so you can experience what early Settlers once knew it to be. All cabins have incredible views of Mono Lake and are non-smoking with private bathrooms. Hammond Station Restaurant, a full service restaurant with a beer and wine license, is opened daily (except Wed) for breakfast and dinner. The property has 20-plus acres of grounds with beautiful wild flowers and a private frontage road to Mono Lake. There are lots of picnic areas overlooking Mono Lake for you to BBQ or enjoy a packed lunch or a picnic basket available from restaurant. Our gazebo in the picnic area overlooking Mono Lake and the flower meadow provide ideal romantic settings for outdoor weddings, which our restaurant can cater for you.

Note: We take "getting away from it all" seriously! Our rooms do not offer modern-day in-room amenities such as television, telephone, or air conditioning.

Seasons Open: May through October

There are abundant recreation opportunities including bird watching, photography, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, rock climbing and mountaineering in Yosemite National Park, Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes and June Lake.

Ben wrote on August 26, 2012: Stayed only 1 night in a delightful room with bath, no refrig. Didn’t need one anyway, enjoyed the view across the 395 to Mono Lake and a million stars to enjoy in the cool & clear evening after spending midnight driving through Las Vegas the previous night at 100 degrees. Loved the beautiful and peaceful grounds. I'll be back.

Don Dakins wrote on July 16, 2010: So peaceful, relaxing, and with incredible sunsets over Mono Lake! Historic Sierra cottages perfectly placed with soothing cascading brooks and wildflower gardens at your doorstep, and the stars at night. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy this rare delight !
