The Town of Gardnerville was founded in 1879 by Lawrence Gilman of Genoa when he moved the Kent House from the Genoa area to a 7-acre tract of land on the East Fork of the Carson River. Gilman had purchased the land from a homesteader, John M. Gardner, in whose honor he named the new town.

Today, Gardnerville is a thriving community in the heart of the beautiful Carson Valley. Its location is ideal for both the nature lover and the more suburban at heart. The splendor of Lake Tahoe is just a short drive to the west and Reno is less than an hour north. The current population within the town is 5,250. We have a wonderful, friendly community and hold town events throughout the year to keep the residents active and engaged by providing various opportunities to visit and mingle.

The town is the home to many small business and unique boutique shops located downtown. Town of Gardnerville is a residential community, with larger lot suburban neighborhoods to dense compact starter homes. Shopping is within walking distance of the residences. Three parks are maintained by the town. The Martin Slough walking path is currently about three quarters of a mile of nature trail, and will be expanded soon to double the trail length.

Movies in the Park - The Town of Gardnerville sets up a movie screen on the Heritage Park Pavilion to show new and classic movies within Heritage Park. We show four (4) movies during the summer months of June through August. Food and beverage are sold and benefit local groups and organizations during each of the events.

4th of July Celebration - The Town co-sponsors with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra a July 4th celebration of the founding of this great County. This event allows residents and visitors a location to enjoy the patriotic music of the local volunteer Carson Valley Pops Orchestra.

Christmas Celebration – Opening night where musically themed lights at Heritage Park are turned on and viewers can drive by, tune into the appropriate radio station, and listen and watch the lights dance to music.

All the town events are free, and open to the community and visitors are welcome.
