Truckee Day

Truckee Day, a community-wide road clean up and block party, is held the first Saturday in June each year. Celebrating its seventh successful year in 2010, an average of 8 tons of trash was collected by an average of 700 volunteers! Show your community pride by stepping out to clean up the streets.
Each year, over 500 people attend the Block Party the same day to celebrate the town of Truckee. The event has spread to include the North Shore of Lake Tahoe and includes the communities of Northstar, Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista and Tahoe City.
Every neighborhood is represented by a Champion who serves as the local coordinator on the day of the event. The goal is to clean the roadside of every road in town. However, volunteer numbers will dictate the total mileage and streets to be cleaned. The roads are cleaned in order of use; that is, the primary roads will be the priority, then the secondary roads, and so on.
Registration is the day of the event at the check-in stations. Free t-shirts are available to volunteers on a first-come, first-served basis. In some neighborhoods the check-in station will be the local Fire Station; in other neighborhoods it will be the home or office of a Champion or a local merchant or business. Bags and instructions will be provided to volunteers the morning of the pick-up. The bags will be picked up by our garbage contractor.
The block party starts at noon at Regional Park in Truckee and features free lunch for all volunteers, live music, kids activities and a community expo.
Volunteers are needed to assist in event coordination (fund-raising, logistics, etc) and especially on the day of the event. No pre-registration is needed to be a volunteer on Truckee Day!
Appropriate Ages for Volunteer Opportunity: All ages are welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and will be assigned to secondary roads.
None! It doesn't get much easier than Truckee Day - walk a few blocks and fill your bag(s) with the trash made visible when the snow melts.
