Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield Park is open year-round and free to the public for kayaking, canoeing, inner tubing and whitewater rafting. It is situated in the heart of downtown Reno's 24-hour hotel-casino district and encircles Wingfield Park, an island with an amphitheater and foot bridges that link the island with the Riverwalk. The Riverwalk District includes a unique collection of shops, restaurants, parks, cultural venues, and a family-friendly bike route.

The whitewater park was built in 2003 with 11 drop pools that provide channels for freestyle kayaking and slalom racing, as well as grouted rocks and boulders for spectators to sit in the sun and watch the action. The park is home of the popular Reno River Festival each May, which draws top-ranking kayakers to the compete in the fresh, clean river water that flows downstream from Lake Tahoe. April to June for whitewater rafting, but kayaking is fun all year, and enthusiasts can be found playing at the whitewater park in the dead of winter. The park was engineered to accommodate kayaks even during periods of low flow in late summer-early fall when water levels are lowest.

First Street at Downtown Plaza and from Wingfield Park. Boaters can put into the river upstream at various city or county parks for a fun and exciting downstream float to the Whitewater Park.

Wheelchair accessibility to Wingfield Park via footbridges, paved walkways and a ramp that goes to the water so that people with disabilities can get into the river.

Pets on leashes are permitted; owner cleanup expected.
