Built in 1880 as a boarding house and saloon, the Union continues to offer weary travelers the charm of Gold Rush history with modern amenities. The Union located in Volcano, one of the largest settlements in California during the Gold Rush with a population close to 20,000, is now a peaceful village of 100 residents. The Union is a hub of activity for locals and visitors.

Local lore tells of the town holding a trial that concluded in the first hanging verdict in Volcano was held at the Union. Paranormal seekers have experienced many "encounters" while visiting the Union and always depart satisfied. People seeking a restful and nourishing escape find the town of Volcano and the Union delightful, they depart satisfied as well.

The Union was extensively renovated in 2000 by the David/Burney family to update the lodging. Originally nine rooms and one bathroom occupied the second level of the building. Today, there are four modernly equipped rooms with private baths, cable and gourmet food available in the Pub downstairs.

The second floor of the Union boasts a balcony stretching the length of the building. The view is the most complete of the town of Volcano. The Pub downstairs offers a shuffleboard table, high quality darts and event space.

Bed and Breakfast Style

A sense of casual elegance is what guests will find at the Inn. Heavenly beds, high quality linens, flat panel TV, DVD player, iPOD docking station, sunken tubs and over-sized tile showers answer all the needs of creature comforts today's traveler desires. The only thing missing is a phone. Cell phone service is inconsistent, however complimentary WIFI is available throughout the building.

A made from scratch breakfast awaits the guests each morning. It is served buffet style with eggs, baked goods, fruit, juice and coffee.

We are hands off innkeepers. If you need anything just ask.
