Wilson's Eastside Sports opened in 1978 as a boot resole shop. In line with the rural nature of Bishop, cowboy boots were repaired alongside climbing shoes, hiking boots and telemark ski boots. Through the years the store morphed into a full service mountaineering shop. The resoling part of the business was sold to the head cobbler who is still resoling climbing shoes across the street under the name The Rubber Room. This mountaineering shop has something to interest just about anyone. There is a huge climbing gear selection be you a boulderer, trad, or sport climber. A huge pile of bouldering pads greets you as you come in the front door just in case you have a hankering to play the princess and the pea. The climbing shoe selection is broad and all sizes are kept in stock. Backpackers will find everything they need for their trip including repair parts and expert knowledge by staff who are outdoor enthusiasts themselves. A large book and map section can keep people busy for hours as the store stocks all local guidebooks and nature guides along with mountaineering literature. Of course there is also a huge selection of clothing that you don't need to be an outdoor enthusiast to like, and you will always find something on sale. There is a broad selection of rental gear if you are traveling and prefer to not haul it with you. And then there are those fun and odd items that you just never know what you will find in here. This is the place to stop before heading into your next outdoor adventure or if you are just passing through town. The staff are always happy to answer questions or offer advice.
