Winter Classic Sled Dog Race - Foresthill

Event Dates: March 09, 2013 - March 10, 2013
Due to lack of snow, the Chamber regrettably has canceled the 2012 Foresthill Sled Dog Winter Classic Race for March 10/11, 2012. We wish to thank our race sponsors, the Sierra Nevada Dog Drivers, One Track Mind Snowmobile Club, Tahoe National Forest Service, the many businesses who contributed raffle prizes and our volunteers for their countless hours of service. We did our very best to organize the race this year, but the one team member we needed - Mother Nature, left us high and dry. We hope you (and Mother Nature) will join us in 2013 for the Foresthill Sled Dog Winter Classic.
Sled dog mushers from around the country compete in Foresthill's Sled Dog Race in March...snow willing. The race begins at China Wall staging area at 5100 ft. elevation. Spectators are welcome to attend the event to see these beautiful dogs in their natural working environment.
The Foresthill Divide Chamber of Commerce works with the Sierra Nevada Dog Drivers Association to plan and organize the two-day event. The One Track Mind Snowmobile Club in cooperation with the Tahoe National Forest Service ensure racers don't get lost and the trails are well groomed. Entrants in the race include three-dog to eight-dog sledding teams, tackling a course up to 12-miles in length. Several teams racing have competed in the grueling Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska.
Dry-Land sled-dog demonstrations using sleds with wheels are held in downtown Foresthill during the 2-day event. Mushers demonstrate how the dogs are hooked up, the training and how it all operates. This allows spectators an up-close and personal look at the dogs and an opportunity to learn more about the work involved in training dogs to race. You can even pet them!
Snow willing...Foresthill plans to hold the Sled Dog Winter Classic annually but Mother Nature is in charge. The excitement the dogs have is unbelievable. They love doing this and you'll love watching them.
Free. Spectators are bused from Foresthill 12 miles to China Wall and there is a small fee for the round trip ride.
Sled Dog Race participants should register with Sierra Nevada Sled Dog Drivers prior to the race.
Not wheel chair accessible due to snow pack.
Family pets are now allowed.
