Yosemite Outdoor Adventures

Birding Yosemite

"Yosemite Outdoor Adventures" is an award-winning series of field seminars provided by Yosemite Conservancy (YC) throughout the year. The park's main non-profit partner since 1923, YC offers many services to the resources and the visitors of Yosemite National Park in addition to the field seminar program. YC's activities include Yosemite book publishing and sales in the visitor centers, volunteer opportunities, an intern program with UC Merced, managing the wilderness permit system, operating the Yosemite Art Center and the Yosemite Theater, raising millions in donations every year, and much more. Learn more at www.yosemiteconservancy.com.

Areas of Service and Expertise

Being centered in the park, Yosemite Outdoor Adventures brings a variety of top-notch professional leaders, artists, naturalists, rangers, authors, etc. to teach their specialty out on the trail in Yosemite. The subject area expertise of YC's instructors is matched by their strong teaching gifts.  Conservancy programs augment those of the interpretive rangers and are widely regarded as top notch.  In addition to about 40 field seminars a year, YC also conducts dozens of Custom Adventures for families, groups and travel companies that seek a fun, personal educational experience in Yosemite. The Conservancy's naturalist-guides provide the best interpretive experience whether stepping on to a bus, or on the trail to Half Dome. All Yosemite Outdoor Adventures have park lodging reserved, and come with free camping and free entry to the park. www.yosemiteconservancy.org/adventures

Types of Experiences and Trips Provided

Yosemite Outdoor Adventures cover a range of natural history topics: birding, astronomy, geology, botany, giant sequoias, watersheds and more - twelve months a year. There are also courses that are family programs, backpack trips, photography and art classes, outdoor skills, cultural history and special day hikes. Custom Adventures with Yosemite Conservancy can be whatever the client seeks: introductory programs, hikes to secret places, or centered around a particular area of interest.

 ADA Accessibility Notes

Because our programs take place out in Yosemite's rugged terrain, a limited number of Yosemite Outdoor Adventures will accommodate ADA mobility needs. Art courses and a few others are accessible for the mobility impaired.

 Eco-Friendly Notes

Yosemite Conservancy is an education member of Leave No Trace, Inc. (LNT), promoting minimum impact techniques for the outdoors. YC's Resident Naturalist is the park's first LNT Master, and an LNT Trainer course has been part of the Yosemite Outdoor Adventures offerings for several years. YC provides bear-proof canisters to thousands of backpackers for inexpensive protection of bears from human food, and has raised millions of dollars for resource protection in Yosemite.

 Pet Friendly Notes

The nature of Yosemite does not allow us to include pets on Yosemite Outdoor Adventure programs or in our campsites.
