The Owens Valley Growers Cooperative (OVGC) is hosting weekly Certified Farmers Markets in Southern Inyo County.
The Market takes place from 4-6 pm on Friday afternoons, and rotates between the OVGC Building at Mairs Market (Edwards St/ Rte. 395@ Kearsarge) in Independence and Spainhower Park @ Rte. 395 at Willow) in Lone Pine.
Hours Open: Fridays, 4-6 pm
Seasons Open: The Independence Market is a year-round, four season market; The Lone Pine Market closes for the winter in November.
Owens Valley Growers Cooperative is composed of twenty small farmers and artisan food producers who reside between Big Pine and Olancha. By collaborating to develop locally grown food in the Owens Valley, these small business owners aim to improve food choices available to both their own communities and to tourists visiting the region.
Two of our farms are located near prominent trailheads and offer vacation cabin rental: DelaCour Ranch on Horseshoe Meadow Road in Lone Pine offers u-pick lavender in June and eco-tours year around; Glacier Botanicals is a family owned farm located just below Glacier Lodge in Big Pine.
Both the Independence and Lone Pine Markets are accessible.
The Owens Valley Growers Cooperative’s mission is to build a local, sustainable food system. Through community education, support of local agriculture, and the development of local market outlets, we aim to increase access to healthy food choices.
By developing sources for locally grown food, OVGC reduces dependence on oil and builds a sustainable food shed. OVGC growers use water non-conventional water conservation practices, including deep soil building, and organic and pesticide-free growing methods.
