Along the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway is the mighty Stanislaus River and the Stanislaus Meadow Trailhead. This trail winds pleasantly through the meadow eventually leading visitors into the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness.
Day hikers and anglers may choose to hike only to Heiser Lake via the Heiser Lake Trail (Mosquito Lakes Trailhead), or only to larger Bull Run Lake via the Bull Run Trail (Stanislaus Meadow Trailhead), thereby avoiding the brief car transport. Both lakes offer anglers the opportunity of catching trout during the summer months. The Bull Run Trail transports hikers through terrain thick with old-growth conifers until it breaks into granite slick rock country below Bull Run Lake. Trails to Bull Run Lake and Heiser Lake are independent trails that are not part of the larger network of trails within Alpine County and Highway 4.
Directions:
Heading East on Highway 4, also known as the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway, Stanislaus Meadow is located between Lake Alpine and Mosquito Lake. If you reach Mosquito Lake headed East on Highway 4 you have gone too far.
