Queen's Inn by the River is a quaint, family owned lodge.  Located in the southern Sierra Nevada, the property sits on 5-1/2 acres along side a river that flows all year and comes from the snow melt high in the Sierra Nevada. The natural, park-like setting also features The Idle Hour Winery known for its award-winning wines as well as a lovely Wine and Beer Garden.

Located across the rolling green lawn sits the 8-room Queen's Inn.  Each room is uniquely decorated and has a private patio or deck for guests to take in the majestic views of the mountains and  features paintings by world-renowned artist Tim Cantor and fine art nature photography by local artist Rikki Alley.

Lodging Style and Amenities

Just minutes from the south gate to Yosemite National Park, Queen's Inn offers the finest lodging experience.  Although dating from the early 1950s, and in our family since 1964. The inn property was also used in 1952 to shoot scenes from the movie Hiawatha. The inn was thoughtfully and lovingly restored in 2007.   We are proud to offer many fine amenities while providing our guests the service of a small, intimate lodge.  If you are looking for the ultimate stay in the Yosemite Area, Queen's Inn has the perfect room for you.

The Queen's Inn Wine & Beer Garden offers a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy your favorite wine or beer.   The Wine bar itself is small and friendly. However, you can step out into the garden and enjoy the fresh air and just sit and watch the river go by.  On many occasions the Beer & Wine Garden features live entertainment by a variety of local musicians.

The Idle Hour Winery, Oakhurst's first winery, is the recipient of a number of national prestigious awards.  The winery features wine tasting hours hosted by the Winemaker and her apprentices. As a member of the Madera Vintners Wine Association, the winery participates in the Madera Wine Trails events.

Seasons Open: Queen's Inn by the River is open 365 days a year.

Recreational Opportunities

Queen's Inn by the River is located in a site formally known as the Cedar Lane Lodge.  Cedar Lane Lodge was built circa 1951 as a motel.  It eventually closed and the buildings were converted for use for another business known as White Oaks Guest Home.

"Queen"

In 1964 Nelson and Naomi Ashby  ̶  "Queen"  ̶   our beloved grandmother, whom we were NEVER allowed to call grandma, or God forbid, granny, purchased the property.  Recently, our family decided to completely renovate this beautiful property and bring it back to what it was originally intended to be, an Inn; a place where people can come and enjoy the surrounding beauty that our mountain area has to offer.

In her memory, we have established "Queen's Inn by the River."

Anna Marie, our Winemaker is also a family member.  Born in Hong Kong, of Portuguese decent, her grandfather had a Chinese Junk named the "Idle Hour".  She named her winery in his honor, with thoughts of the many great experiences she and her family enjoyed when she was a child spending weekends on his wonderful sailing vessel.

Furthermore, each year Queens Inn participates and supports a varity of local chartity organizations such as the SPCA , Toys for Tots, the local Chamber of Commerce fundraisers and many other events. Lastly, Queens Inn always encourages the public to come view and learn about the eco-friendlywine making process and hosts interns from abroad and  the University of California, Fresno Enology and Viticulture program.

 Eco-Friendly Notes

We recycle all of our numerous beverage bottles, cans, electronics waste, and as well as all other recyclable materials.  The Winemaker's philosophy dictates that the process is echo-friendly and supports local vineyards whenever possible.  She uses natural yeast to ferment the wines and gravity flow instead of pumping when barreling the juice, and the unusable parts of the fruit are used as compost.
