We also offer a wide range of historical and low impact tours, including the following:
Thunderbird Lodge Kayak Tour: We have been chosen by the Thunderbird Lodge to be the exclusive provider of kayak tours to the historic lakefront property. Our guides are trained as docents for the property. We lead historical kayak adventures focusing on the role George Whittel played at Lake Tahoe and the legacy he has left behind. This unique trip allows guests a special insight into both the fascinating natural and human history of Lake Tahoe, and specifically the largely undeveloped East Shore. Our trip is the only way to access the Thunderbird Lodge under human power. We can also arrange for non-kayak based groups to tour the lodge as requested or as a backup due to bad weather.
Lodge to Lodge Kayak Tour: We have pioneered 2 to 4 day kayak adventures along the Lake Tahoe Water Trail. These first of their kind trips allow guests to explore the different shores of the lake and to learn about the unique natural and human history of each stretch.
Truckee/Squaw Valley Historical Tours: We strive to offer trips for every type of client. Over the years, we have taken many groups on low impact historical tours emphasizing the Donner Party, Town of Truckee and Squaw Valley Olympics. Trips include a ride up the cable car at Squaw, Tour of the Donner Party Museum and nature trail and a walking tour of downtown Truckee.
Stargazing Snowshoe Tours with Tahoe Star Tours: Tahoe stargazing snowshoe tours one Saturday a month from December through April. Tours will take place at the North Tahoe Regional Park in Tahoe Vista and will include snowshoe rental, poles, a guided snowshoe walk on easy to moderate terrain, permit fees, a laser tour of the night sky and telescopic viewing, plus hot drinks and snacks.
We have taken several guests with lower body paralysis on kayak tours
All adventures emphasize "Leave No Trace" ethics. All trips are non-motorized, human powered recreation. Natural and Human History topics are the focus of the educational component of all of our trips.
We strive to create a sense of place on our trips. Our guides work to pass along the unique natural and human history of each area we travel through. We promote environmental awareness and a conservation ethic by exposing our guests to the uniqueness and beauty of the area. We cover geology, glaciation, lake ecology, clarity issues, BMPs and other restoration topics, native peoples and how theye used the lake, the "discovery" and logging of tahoe and ensuing human/environmental impacts, the Donner Party, and many other relevant topics.
Dogs allowed on many trips and kayak rentals.
