Bear Valley to Lake Alpine Trail

This trail runs between the east end of Lake Alpine and the community of Bear Valley through a beautiful area along the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway. Along the lake shore, the trail is paved and wheelchair accessible. West of the lake, the trail reverts to native surface as it meanders through the forest, hooking up with a portion of the historic Emigrant-West pioneer route. The trail is open to hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians. For bikers, this is a graded single track, fairly easy climbing through beautiful alpine forest topping out on a volcanic ridge. Best connection from Bear Valley to the Lake Alpine and Mt. Reba single track trail system.

This lovely trail is also part of the Mokelumne Coast to Crest Trail, a 300+ mile trail extending from the Pacific Ocean to the Sierra Crest at Ebbetts Pass. From this trail’s Bear Valley terminus, you can catch the MCCT by traveling southward and then turning right and heading up Corral Hollow. Trail alignment is not yet complete heading eastward out of Lake Alpine. See more at
