Current Adventures has been operating on the American River and nearby Sierra Nevada lakes since 1994 . Owner Dan Crandall is a World Champion paddler and ACA instructor and his unique Kayak School specializes in providing the highest quality of education while offering a fun, safe and exciting outing for any age and any skill level.
Current Adventures offers overnight trips to the high granite scenery of Loon Lake, day trips and multi-day lessons on the world class whitewater of the South Fork American River, and quiet tours on the hidden and pristine Slab Creek Reservoir, where the Pony Express Trail is still visible among the steep hillsides and dropping below the water line of the reservoir

We teach all styles and levels of kayaking, and offer a wide range of options for all ages and skill levels. Beautiful Ecotours and touring outings led by experienced instructor- guides, Kids kayak programs, whitewater river kayaking, touring outings on local lakes for those 50+ , whitewater rafting and special training clinics are but some of our options.
We have a top notch crew of guides and instructors including John Weed on kid’s programs, touring and race training classes; Paul Camozzi, Bill Van der Ven on our touring outings; Kim Sprague on touring and river stuff; Jason Bates and Gigi McBee as lead whitewater instructors and international river guides. Jason continues to be our lead on the river, and helps now with instructor training and recruitment as well as content contributor for www.Kayaking.com. Gigi is our lead Swiftwater Rescue instructor and manages The River Store for us in Lotus, CA..
Types of Experiences and Trips Provided
Whitewater lessons and guided trips, Lake tours and beginner paddling lessons, slalom races and training, kid's river kayaking, Junior Kayak camps (week long), lake tours and lessons for folks over 50, Persied Meteor shower overnight trips to Loon Lake, and full moon and sunset paddles. Join us!
We do a lot of training on Leave No Trace philosophy and practice an eco-friendly approach to kayaking and rafting and overall approach to outdoor activities. We also offer (through our sister company, The River Store) rentals of mountain bikes, camping gear and other outdoor accessories that allow for a low impact experience in our local area.
ADA Accessibility Notes
We offer special considerations and paddle-craft in our classes and outings for disabled persons. Some of our key staff are very experienced in working with disabled participants.
Pet Friendly Notes
Pets are welcome on our custom rafting trips, and we can recommend some great options in the area for campers with pets or for folks to leave their pets to play with other animals while the people are off having fun on the water.
