Dia de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos, "Day of the Dead ", takes place in the historic town of Hornitos. A candlelight vigil takes place through town to St. Catherine's Catholic Church (built in 1862) on the hill. The church built of Adobe has many above ground graves that date from the early days of the community. The soil was so hard that people were buried above ground and covered with rocks. Thus the name Hornitos was given to the town.

This event takes place each year on All Soul's Day.
