Although Freshie's was established in central South Lake Tahoe in 2000, over the last ten years it has quickly become a local's favorite, and must-visit venue for visitors.
It is the goal of Freshie's to provide locals and visitors with an overall dining experience that will far exceed their expectations. The restaurant offers innovative, delicious, wholesome and organic cuisine (including organic meats and vegan and vegetarian menu), outstanding micro brewed beers from the Sierra Nevada region and the world, and carefully selected local and organic wines.
The ambiance of the small restaurant is a warm, fun, relaxed atmosphere with excellent service combining elements of fine dining with family style comfort at a value price. All of the products used are always FRESH and as close to nature (unrefined) as possible, many are organic. Erik and Melodie are committed to contributing to the integrity of the Earth and the community.
Erik and Melodie's first priority as owners of Freshies is to care for their crew, their restaurant family, then for their neighbors, the Lake Tahoe locals, and finally for the international community. Freshies also cares for Mother Earth.
Guests can enjoy the deck in the summer that overlooks Lake Tahoe, or enjoy the uniquely appointed dining room any time of year. The Hawaiian tropical feel is definitely a fun getaway from the snow outside in the winter. All of the place mats are handmade with colorful fabrics by Erik's mother, and the salt and pepper shakers are different on every table. The collection includes a hula girl and boy, a pair of flip flops, sea shells, and many more that rotate throughout the cozy dining room. The small bar area is great to sit at and grab lunch with the locals and enjoy the tropical fish tank. The dining room is a cozy small area, which although cannot accomodate large groups, is a unique venue to enjoy dinner with a handful of your friends.
For lunch, the fish tacos are famous, but try the Wiameia Wipeout or Crab Louie sandwich for something fresh and different. For dinner, udon tofu noodle bowls with fresh veggies are fantastic and flavorful, or try pastas or the evening dinner special. There is always a dessert special, which is always unique.
A few notes about the unique cuisine:
Vegan/vegetarian friendly - separate fryers for meat and other items. All fish is fresh, and all of the meats are organic. Gluten/Wheat free/Celiac diet options are available. House made desserts and pasta - all recipes are made fresh on the premises except tortillas and bread (which is from the Truckee Sourdough Co.).
Organic Rice Bran Oil is used in all dressings and the fryers. It is the world's healthiest edible oil. It contains vitamins, antioxidants and is trans fat free. It is light in flavor but also foods made with it absorb 20% less oil. It is hypoallergenic and has the best balance of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats as recommended by the American Heart Association and the World Health Organization.
