Hill's Pride Inn

Charming, tongue and groove wood bar built in 1915 by the Terragno family in Knowles, CA. Stone cutters and quarry workers were the main clients when it opened. The Raymond/Knowles quarry, right down the road from Hill's Pride employed thousands of granite workers over the years. Many of San Francisco's premiere buildings are made of the "Sierra White" granite mined here in Knowles. The bar has a pool table and serves beer and soda with chips and jerky for snacking. In the winter, many folks stop by to sit by the wood stove and tell tales or relax and unwind after work. In the spring and summer, the porch is a wonderful spot to catch the breeze, unwind and harken back to a slower era. Many clubs use it as a gathering spot and bike runs use Hill's Pride as a popular stop to rest and check in. The granite quarry is still in operation and some of the original granite buildings from the early 1900s can be viewed on a scenic drive from Hill's Pride Inn. The owner, Robert Casaurang, is an avid local history expert and can answer questions and give suggestions for exploring Knowles and Raymond.

I'm anxious to visit "Hill's Pride Inn" and see again the Casaurangs. As kids we played behind the old B & B cafe.

Went out to visit family and spent an evening at the Hill’s Pride Inn and met some new friends. Had an enjoyable evening learning about the history of Raymond-Knowles . We will see you again. Your Minnesota Friends.

My grandparents Nadine and Russell Denny lived in Raymond and every summer my sister and I would come out. I remember going to the bar and sitting at the little table in the back by the jukebox. We would drink root beer, eat beef jerky and run around outside. My grandma had a special name for Robert..she always called him Terdbird. Thank you for such wonderful memories. I would love to bring my kids to see the Hills Pride Inn someday.

Robert, Your place is great we love it and you.

Robert we worked together from 63 to 68 at the quarry. I stopped by 13 years ago, and all was quiet on New Year’s vacation. Hope this finds you well. josephconrad1@msn.com

Really enjoyed Hill's Pride Inn at Ken Callahan's Birthday yesterday. What a great place! One can just feel the history there.

I grew up just up the road from there. If you go toward the quarry and see two palm trees our house was there before the quarry buried it
