How many towns dress up their historic monument in the center of town to look like a beer stein? Not many! But Historic Main Street in Placerville pulls out all the stops to promote and remind visitors and locals that this great event, now in its 13th year, is coming to town. Our historic Bell Tower gets “all dressed up” for the occasion, too. What once served to sound the alarm for the city’s volunteer firemen, now serves as landmark and gathering place for parades, festivals and other Historic Main Street events.
This event was first hosted in 2000 by the Placerville Downtown Association to bring together craft breweries, performing artists and shopping in one historic, gold-rush setting in the heart of El Dorado County. The event takes place each year on the last Saturday in June, from 6 to 9 p.m. The festival closes Historic Main Street from Sacramento Street to Clay Street. Over 35 micro-breweries pour samples inside merchant locations and in the Moody Parking Lot.
In addition, there is live music by local bands up and down Main Street. For those wishing to sample the beers, tickets are on sale each May at several locations in Placerville and at the Placerville Downtown Association’s website at www.placervilledowntown.com. Tickets are limited and sell out each year so be sure to get the beer sampling tickets early. For designated drivers and those that want to enjoy the music and late night shopping, the event is FREE!
