The Sierra National Forest is not only a wonderful place to hike, camp, mountain bike, cross-country ski, hunt, and fish; it also serves as a habitat for rare plants, like Shuteye Peak Lily and Mountain Lady Slipper Orchid, and animals such as Pacific Fishers and Southern Spotted Owls. The fishers and owls are the focus of a multi-year study called Sierra Nevada Adaptive Management Project (SNAMP) being conducted by university students from Davis, Merced, and Minnesota.
