Snowshoe Brewing Company opened in 1995 in Arnold by local brew masters who were inspired by the mesmerizing Sierra Nevada at their doorstep. Arnold is located in Calaveras County in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, famous for attracting early pioneers during the California Gold Rush in the 1850s.
Although the Gold Rush is long past, there are plenty of reasons to visit the quiet mountain town. Arnold is located on the southwestern end of the beautiful Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway, one of the most solitude trans-Sierra highways. After a day spent exploring Calaveras Big Tree State Park, skiing Bear Valley Mountain Ski Resort, fishing at Highland Lakes or simply enjoying the vast variety of recreational destinations along Highway 4, satisfy your thirst for local culture with a Snowshoe Thompson Ale and delicious Big Trees Burger at the Snowshoe Brewing Co.
Local Snowshoe brewers have created their award-winning ales using local tap water! Yep, water right from the source - the Sierra Nevada. Beers are bottled in Calaveras and brewed using a 15-barrel brewhouse, three 15-barrel fermenters and three 30-barrel fermenters. Snowshoe specialty beers are named in dedication to local historic icons or Sierra Nevada natural wonders such as the Thompson Pale Ale named after Snowshoe Thompson who traversed the Nevada on snowshoes delivering the mail during the 1860s. Other handcrafted specialty brews include Westridge Winter Ale, Cutthroat Strong Ale, Oktoberfest, Irish Red, Porter, and Midnight Moon Oatmeal Stout - to promote the lifestyle and priorities with nature by the local brewers and the local community. The beer is best any time....and especially when paired with the mix of delicious faire located in the restaurant ranging from vegetarian and low-fat selections to sandwiches, appetizers and the famous Big Trees Burger in honor of the Calaveras Big Trees that tower the landscape, as well as prime rib and steaks to fuel mountaineers.
You be the judge. Stop by any day of the year and ask about the trails and fishing in the area. The local owners and staff are more than happy to tell you about their favorite spots in the Sierra Nevada that inspire their creativity for good food, good beer, and the good life - found only in the Sierra Nevada. Cheers!
